Hello Subscriber

A ‘dry spell’ doesn’t always refer to the weather. One public holiday is coming up in June – but it’s a long time from then until the Melbourne Cup comes around. Until then our tents wither away in garages, our lilos lay low in hall cupboards and our barbecues rust with the remnants of that last summer snag.

We’d be sad about the long haul of full working weeks ahead if we didn’t live in Melbourne. Lucky for us, we do!

Read on for some compelling reasons to stay truly cheerful.

Win a $50 dining voucher

Get fresh with a special friend at the Fish Seafood Grill. With impressive views of the water at Docklands, this eatery certainly makes a splash. Drop by for an oyster tasting evening, share a sumptuous seafood platter or pick your dinner straight from the tank.

Want a $50 dining voucher from Fish Seafood Grill and Rotisserie? Send an email telling us what kind of aquarium is located near the entrance and one of two vouchers could be yours.

James Galea's
I HATE RABBITS

Until 26 April

Putting his dislike of fluffy, floppy bunnykins aside, this modern-day magician is quite the charmer. Part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Galea’s high energy performances shun the usual magic stereotypes. Coat’n’tails? No. Wand waving? Nuh-uh. Rabbits out of hats? Are you kidding? Sleight-of-hand stunts capable of inducing severe ‘jaw-drop’? Expecto Patronum!

Hop to it

Van Gogh Bar

Van Gogh has inspired many people in many ways, including, it would seem, in the way we drink vodka. Melbourne’s Van Gogh Bar offers a range of flavoured vodkas to please every palette. Sink back in plush comfort and try a pomegranate, double espresso or wild apple flavoured vodka. Cheers, big ears – and variations thereof.

Starry nights await

Melbourne International Jazz Festival

Sunday 26 April to Saturday 2 May

“Now you have jazz, jazz, jazz,” sang Louis Armstrong, and this week in Melbourne no one is going to disagree with him. The Melbourne International Jazz Festival brings with it a week of smokin’ hot musicians and music from all schools of jazz. Events are ticketed and free, and include special performances for kids, jazz movies at ACMI and plenty more.

Let’s get lost

Aesop

Aesop’s Melbourne stores are making multiple splashes. Aesop’s hair and skin care products are made with many plant-based ingredients, with products to suit every skin and hair type. And Aesop’s stores are equally adaptable. Each is designed to fit its local environment, making them worth a visit for the design alone.

Acoustica @ Lunch:
Emily Smart

Friday 24 April

Take your lunch to the City Library and enjoy some free music along the way. Emily Smart has an easy way with a tune, playing a variety of sunny songs for an autumn afternoon. She’ll be picking up her guitar to share her musical perspectives and introspections this Friday.
