Melbourne Fringe Festival, 2011

This is it! The final week of the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival.

It’s The Final Countdown! And like all good mid-80’s rock songs of Swedish origin we’re going out with a bang – big hair, black leather, tight pants and a whole lot of dancing. This Festival is going to be one for the history books. Read on for all you need to know about what’s happening across Melbourne, having your say, special and FREE events happening this week in the Fringe Club and, of course, when to don your leopard print pants and make like a rock star.

Features

Last week of the Fringe Club!

The party doesn’t stop at the Fringe Club, Melbourne’s hottest – albeit temporary – night spot.  We’ve jam-packed the final week with more crowd-pleasing nights of FREE entertainment than you can shake a stick-like object at.

Tomorrow, get up close and personal with the Last Tuesday Society as they recreate the moments that broke their theatrical hymens.  Featuring the marvellous Bron Batten (Sweet Child of Mine), Telia Nelive (Crowd Play Ambassador), Edward Gould (Musical Thoughts For a Darkened Room), Zoey Dawson (I Know There's A Lot Of Noise Outside) , Jon Bennet, Emily Thomlins (After All This), and Anna ‘Pocket Rocket’ Lumb (I Heart Jack).

Want to plan the rest of your week in the Fringe Club?

Get set for an evening of topical laughs in Political Asylum (Wed), the encore session of Jewels & Bullets (Thurs), Shut Up and Dance... 3 (Fri) and – last but not least – the Fringe Awards and Closing Night Party (Sat). Head here for more info.

Plus, keep an eye out for totes fab fashionistas Dash and DBree, who will be roaming the Fringe Club this Tuesday and Friday spreading the good word on Protecting your Glory Box this Fringe.

Altas: Points in Space

Melbourne’s landscape is made up of people as much as it is geography and landmarks. People work on weekdays, catch public transport, have rendezvous or unfortunately in some circumstances have nowhere else to go. Points in Space is a short film by Atlas artist Benjamin Ducroz which documents the flow of human traffic through Melbourne’s CBD. Benjamin has been filming in various inner city locations throughout the Festival, using a combination of stop-frame animation and time-lapse photography. Head to Federation Square on Wednesday night to catch the finished film.
