Until Sunday 7 October
This dramatic portrait by Jacques Louis David, Napoleon Bonaparte, First Consul, crossing the Alps at Great St Bernard Pass, has travelled all the way from Versailles, France, to form the centrepiece of this year’s NGV Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition. The exhibition is open from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Sunday, with late night opening until 9pm on Wednesdays. |

If an excursion to the NGV has left you in awe of things continental, why not complement your visit with a sojourn at The European on Spring Street? Reminiscent of old-world Europe, The European mines the traditions of rural France, Italy and Spain, serving honest, simple food created from the best produce and ingredients from Australia and beyond. |

If either you, or that special man in your life, admires the debonair style of Napoleon and his heroic comrades of yesteryear, why not head down to the Barber Club and get a suitably swashbuckling haircut? Combining traditional and modern men's haircutting techniques, the Barber Club offers full grooming services and products just for men, in a sanctuary of supreme masculinity. |

Melbourne comes into its own in winter. There are great art exhibitions, spectacular footy matches and cosy bars, but outdoors the city is bristling with life too. See the Royal Botanic Gardens in all its wintry splendour on a discovery walk with one of the gardens’ friendly guides. Tours run twice a day from Tuesday to Sunday, so there are plenty of opportunities to view the gardens' natural beauty. |
